You Were There

You were there when I was one,
we were always having fun.
You were there when I was two,
always there when I cried for you.
You were there when I was three,
Teaching me, helping me, comforting me.
You were there when I was four,
I came running when you knocked on my door.
You were there when I was five,
even at my very first pool dive.
You were there when I was six,
never ever to miss.
You were there when I was seven,
lying down in "Hospital Heaven".
You were there when I was eight,
when I was first in a childish debate.
You were there when I was nine,
your voice was ever so divine.
You were there when I was ten,
taught me how to use a pen.
You were there when I was eleven,
when I went back to "Hospital Heaven".
You were there when I was twelve,
I remember you under those shelves...

The nights go by, our memories convene,
knowing you weren't there, for my beloved thirteen.
